However, it is often overlooked how this phenomenon disproportionately affects indigenous communities, particularly those living in remote and vulnerable areas. In this essay, I will discuss the impact of climate change on indigenous communities, focusing on aspects such as their livelihoods, culture, and environment.

The primary effect of climate change on indigenous communities is the alteration of the natural environment which forms the basis of their livelihoods. For instance, the rising sea levels threaten coastal regions inhabited by indigenous people, resulting in loss of land, displacement, and reduction in the availability of resources such as fish, shellfish, and plants. Additionally, the increased frequency and intensity of extreme weather events like floods, droughts, and storms cause significant damage to agriculture and infrastructure, further exacerbating these communities' vulnerability.

Moreover, climate change also impacts indigenous cultures by disrupting age-old practices and traditions that have been passed down through generations. For example, changes in the migration patterns of fish species disrupt the traditional fishing practices of certain indigenous groups. Similarly, the decline in biodiversity due to rising temperatures affects the availability of medicinal plants used in their traditional healing practices.
