While it is true that wetlands may not hold the same economic value as other ecosystems such as forests, grasslands or agricultural lands, their protection should still be deemed essential due to the numerous environmental, ecological, and socio-economic benefits they provide.

From an environmental perspective, wetlands serve as natural water filters. They remove pollutants and excess nutrients from water bodies, preventing the degradation of downstream ecosystems. The preservation of these habitats is crucial in maintaining the balance of aquatic life and ensuring a healthy ecosystem.

Ecologically, wetlands are home to a diverse range of plant and animal species. They provide a breeding ground for numerous migratory birds, support unique flora and fauna, and help maintain biodiversity. The degradation or loss of these habitats can lead to a decline in the number of species, disrupting the food chain and affecting overall ecosystem health.
