The act of deforestation involves the removal of large areas of forests, often to make way for agriculture, logging, or urban development. This process has a profound effect on biodiversity, as it destroys natural habitats of countless species, leading to loss of both plant and animal life. Moreover, deforestation disrupts ecosystem balance by reducing the number of plants available to produce oxygen, which in turn affects the survival of various organisms that rely on this essential resource.

However, it is important to recognize that deforestation may not be the sole or even the biggest threat to biodiversity.
