This has led to an increase in grassroots activism and a greater sense of civic responsibility. For example, the Arab Spring movement, which began on social media platforms, showcased the power of online mobilization in sparking political change. Additionally, social media has provided a voice for marginalized groups who may have been underrepresented in traditional media outlets. Through hashtag activism and viral campaigns, these communities can raise awareness about their concerns and challenge dominant narratives.

However, the rise of social media has also led to several drawbacks in terms of democracy. The spread of misinformation on platforms such as Facebook and Twitter has become a significant concern.
