Forests are home to a vast number of plant and animal species, many of which are endemic to these regions. When forests are cleared, not only do the plant and animal species residing in them lose their habitat, but the delicate balance of ecosystems is also disrupted, leading to a ripple effect throughout the food chain.

Another factor contributing to the decline in biodiversity is habitat destruction. As urbanization and industrialization progress, natural habitats are replaced with built-up areas, agricultural land, and other human activities.
