One of the primary reasons for implementing a ban on single-use plastics is the adverse effect they have on the environment. Plastic materials are non-biodegradable, meaning that they persist in the environment for hundreds of years, releasing toxic chemicals as they break down. This not only contributes to the growing problem of plastic waste in landfills but also leads to the contamination of soil and water sources.
