On one hand, proponents of dress codes argue that they promote a sense of equality among students, as they ensure that all individuals in the school are dressed according to the same standards. This uniformity may also reduce peer pressure to wear fashionable or expensive clothing, thereby minimizing social divisions based on wealth and appearance. Furthermore, dress codes can be beneficial for schools with a focus on practical skills or trades, as specific attire may be necessary for safety reasons or to maintain a professional atmosphere.

However, enforcing a strict dress code has several drawbacks. Firstly, it could infringe upon the personal freedom and expression of students, which is an essential aspect of their development. By limiting students' choice in clothing, a dress code may inhibit creativity and self-expression, which are important skills for students to cultivate in their formative years. Secondly, implementing a dress code can be financially burdensome for families who are already struggling to provide their children with the necessary educational resources.
