However, this interaction comes with both positive and negative consequences for political discourse.

On the one hand, social media democratizes the conversation around politics by enabling citizens from all walks of life to participate in discussions. It levels the playing field, allowing people who may have been marginalized or excluded from traditional forms of media to have their voices heard. For instance, it can facilitate grassroots movements that demand political change, such as the Arab Spring in 2011. Furthermore, social media can also amplify awareness of important issues and spark public debate. In this way, social media plays a crucial role in fostering civic engagement and promoting democratic values.

On the other hand, social media can also have negative impacts on political discourse. One significant concern is the spread of misinformation or "fake news." As individuals share information without fact-checking, false stories and conspiracy theories can quickly go viral. This contributes to polarization, as people form opinions based on incorrect information. Additionally, social media algorithms tend to promote content that aligns with a user's existing beliefs, creating echo chambers where users are exposed primarily to viewpoints similar to their own. This can result in the entrenchment of political divisions and make it difficult for individuals to engage in meaningful dialogue across party lines.

Moreover, social media has given rise to cyberbullying and harassment.
