This essay will discuss how women are making a difference in this field, as well as some potential reasons for their involvement.

Firstly, women have been at the forefront of grassroots environmental movements worldwide. They have established numerous non-governmental organizations (NGOs) dedicated to preserving the environment and raising awareness about the pressing need for conservation efforts. For example, Wangari Maathai, a Kenyan environmental activist, founded the Green Belt Movement, an organization that has planted millions of trees in Africa and empowered women to become stewards of their local environments.

Secondly, women have been influential in shaping environmental policies at both national and international levels. For instance, Christiana Figueres, a Costa Rican diplomat, played a pivotal role in negotiating the Paris Agreement on climate change as the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
