In 2019 alone, there were over 1,500 reported incidents involving drones in the United States, some of which resulted in injuries or damage to property (FAA, 2019). By establishing a regulatory framework, governments can ensure that operators undergo mandatory training and receive appropriate licenses. This would not only improve overall safety but also increase public confidence in drone technology.

Secondly, regulations can protect privacy rights by setting limits on where, when, and how drones can be flown. Unregulated drone usage has raised concerns about surveillance and invasion of personal space, especially in densely populated urban areas. Governments could establish guidelines specifying no-fly zones around residential neighborhoods or sensitive locations such as airports and military bases to maintain public safety and respect individual privacy.

Lastly, regulating the use of drones can prevent their misuse for criminal activities. Drones have been used in smuggling drugs across borders, carrying out surveillance on behalf of criminal organizations, and even dropping contraband into prisons (BBC News, 2018).
