On one hand, it can be argued that it is a fundamental duty of the government to ensure that all members of society have access to adequate and reasonably priced accommodation. However, on the other hand, there are those who believe that the market should be left alone to regulate itself in order to meet housing needs effectively.

In support of the argument that governments should provide affordable housing for all citizens, it can be said that housing is a basic human right and a necessary requirement for people to live a decent life. Governments have a responsibility to ensure that all citizens have access to essential services such as education, healthcare and housing. By providing affordable housing, governments can help reduce the wealth gap between different sections of society, and create a more equitable distribution of resources. Furthermore, governments can play a significant role in addressing the housing crisis by implementing policies that promote affordable housing development, such as zoning regulations and financial incentives for developers to build low-cost units.

However, some argue that the market should be left alone to regulate itself, which is likely to result in a better supply of affordable housing over time. Proponents of this viewpoint assert that government intervention could lead to negative consequences such as inefficiency and corruption.
