Destroying such sites would not only result in the loss of invaluable knowledge but also inflict deep psychological wounds on those affected. For instance, the destruction of the Bamiyan Buddhas by the Taliban in 2001 sparked global outrage, illustrating the significance these sites hold for humanity as a whole.

On the other hand, it is crucial to consider the potential consequences of diverting resources and attention away from saving lives to protect cultural artifacts. In armed conflicts, the primary responsibility should be to minimize casualties and suffering. By devoting time, energy, and resources to safeguard historical sites, these could be diverted from more pressing humanitarian efforts such as providing aid, medical assistance, and shelter to displaced populations.
