It is evident that climate change plays a significant role in exacerbating the occurrence and intensity of various natural calamities such as hurricanes, floods, droughts, and wildfires. In this essay, we will discuss how climate change contributes to these disasters by affecting weather patterns, ocean temperatures, and ecological systems.

Firstly, climate change affects the frequency and intensity of hurricanes. Warmer ocean temperatures due to global warming provide more energy for hurricane formation. Consequently, this leads to stronger and more destructive storms with increased rainfall, causing flooding in affected areas. For example, Hurricane Harvey in 2017 caused unprecedented flooding in Houston, Texas, due to the record-breaking rainfall associated with the storm.

Secondly, droughts are another natural disaster significantly impacted by climate change. Rising temperatures and altered precipitation patterns result in water scarcity and prolonged periods of dry weather. This directly affects agriculture and leads to food shortages, as seen in the ongoing drought in the Horn of Africa. Moreover, drought-stricken regions become more susceptible to wildfires due to the excessive dryness, such as the devastating wildfires in Australia during the 2019/2020 bushfire season, which were exacerbated by the prolonged heatwave and drought.

Lastly, climate change also contributes to an increase in the frequency and severity of floods.
