In this essay, I will examine both perspectives and provide my own opinion on whether or not society is indeed growing more or less concerned about privacy.
On one hand, it can be argued that society is becoming more concerned about privacy as a result of several factors. One major factor contributing to this increasing concern is the rise in cybercrime and data breaches. With high-profile cases such as the Cambridge Analytica scandal and various cyberattacks on large companies like Equifax, people have become more aware of the potential dangers of sharing their personal information online. The growing trend of oversharing on social media platforms has led to a desensitization of the concept of privacy. As people increasingly share personal details about their lives on platforms such as Instagram and Facebook, they may become more complacent about their privacy online. Furthermore, the convenience offered by digital services often comes at the expense of sharing personal data, which can result in a lack of concern for the potential risks associated with this practice.
Additionally, advances in technology have made it possible to track and monitor individuals more effectively than ever before. The adoption of biometric identification methods such as facial recognition systems by governments and corporations has led to an acceptance of these technologies despite privacy concerns.
