For instance, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube have all implemented policies aimed at combatting misinformation, hate speech, and cyberbullying. These efforts can be seen as proactive measures that demonstrate responsibility on the part of these platforms.

On the other hand, there are several reasons why government intervention is necessary. Firstly, self-regulation has its limitations, and social media companies may prioritize profit over public interest. For example, algorithms that promote user engagement can inadvertently amplify divisive content, which may contribute to polarization and social unrest. In such cases, governments need to step in and ensure that the interests of citizens are not compromised.

Secondly, the global reach of social media means that it transcends national boundaries.
