Task 2 Writing Topic: "Is society becoming more or less engaged in political activism?"

Model Answer:
Over the past few decades, the level of political activism has been a subject of debate among scholars and commentators. Some argue that political activism is on the rise due to various factors such as advancements in technology and increased accessibility to information. Others, however, contend that society's engagement in political activism is waning, as people become more apathetic and less concerned about global issues. In this essay, I will discuss the factors contributing to both the increase and decrease in political activism and ultimately argue that overall, society is becoming less engaged in political activism.

On one hand, it can be argued that society's engagement in political activism has increased due to advancements in technology and the rise of social media platforms. The internet and social media have provided individuals with a global platform to express their opinions and organize protests, rallies, and campaigns. Furthermore, the ease of accessing information on various issues has sparked interest and awareness among people from different walks of life. For example, the Arab Spring and the Black Lives Matter movement are two instances where social media played a significant role in mobilizing activists worldwide.

However, there are several factors that suggest society's engagement in political activism is decreasing. One reason for this decline is the increasing apathy among people due to the complexity of global issues and the feeling that their actions have little impact on the outcome. Additionally, the rise of populist politicians has led to a polarization of opinions, creating divisions within societies rather than fostering a sense of collective responsibility. Lastly, economic instability and the focus on personal well-being have diverted people's attention away from political activism.

In conclusion, while it is true that advancements in technology and social media have played a role in increasing political activism, several factors such as apathy, polarization, and economic instability have contributed to the decline in society's engagement in political activism. Based on these points, it can be argued that overall, society is becoming less engaged in political activism.
