On one hand, proponents of bioengineering maintain that this discipline can significantly contribute to environmental conservation in several ways. For instance, genetically modified organisms (GMOs) can be engineered to consume pollutants, such as excess carbon dioxide or industrial waste, thereby helping to alleviate air and water pollution. Additionally, bioengineering has the potential to create sustainable alternatives to non-renewable resources like petroleum, which are responsible for environmental degradation. By developing biofuels from plants, for example, we can reduce our reliance on fossil fuels and, in turn, decrease greenhouse gas emissions and other forms of pollution.
