On one hand, globalization has led to an unprecedented level of interconnectedness among nations. The rapid spread of technology, mass media, and international trade have facilitated the exchange of ideas, cultures, and languages at an accelerated pace. This has resulted in a growing number of people becoming multilingual, as they learn foreign languages not only for travel purposes but also to gain access to global markets or to integrate into diverse communities. This has resulted in a decline in the number of speakers for some less dominant languages, ultimately leading to their extinction.

In conclusion, globalization has had a dual impact on language diversity. While it has contributed to an increased level of multilingualism by fostering cross-cultural understanding and communication, it has also threatened linguistic diversity through the dominance of English in various spheres.
