In this essay, I will analyze both perspectives and conclude which system would be more advantageous for students.

Firstly, let us consider the benefits of the traditional academic year system. One significant advantage is the opportunity for students to have long breaks during the summer months. These extended periods allow children to engage in outdoor activities, spend time with family, and recharge their batteries before the start of a new school year. Additionally, research has shown that breaks from continuous learning can improve cognitive function and help students retain information better.

On the other hand, proponents of a year-round school calendar argue that it would eliminate the need for long summer vacations. Instead, schools would operate on a rotating schedule where students have shorter breaks throughout the year. The main advantage of this system is that it prevents "summer learning loss," which occurs when students lose some of the knowledge and skills they gained during the previous academic year due to lack of engagement in educational activities. Moreover, shorter vacations can help parents who need childcare services during school breaks, making life easier for working families.

In conclusion, while both systems have their merits, it is more beneficial for students to adopt a year-round school calendar.
