As forests are cleared for agriculture or logging purposes, these communities lose access to essential food sources such as game, nuts, fruits, and roots. Moreover, deforestation can lead to soil erosion, which in turn reduces the fertility of the land and makes it difficult for indigenous people to sustainably practice their traditional agricultural methods.
