IELTS Writing Task 2 Topic: "Is society becoming more or less inclusive?"
Model Answer:
In recent years, there has been an increasing emphasis on the concept of inclusion in various aspects of society. Some people argue that we are becoming more inclusive, while others believe that we are regressing in this regard. This essay will analyze both perspectives and provide a balanced view on whether society is indeed becoming more or less inclusive.
On one hand, there have been significant strides towards increased inclusion. The rise of social media platforms has allowed for greater visibility of minority groups, providing a voice to those who were previously marginalized. Furthermore, the legal recognition of same-sex marriage and the push for gender equality in the workplace demonstrate that society is making efforts to break down barriers and create an environment where everyone feels welcome. Additionally, there are numerous organizations and campaigns dedicated to promoting diversity and inclusion, such as the 'HeForShe' initiative, which aims to engage men in the fight for gender equality.
On the other hand, there are instances where society seems to be moving away from inclusion rather than towards it. The rise of nationalism and populism in some parts of the world has led to an increase in xenophobia and discrimination against immigrants and minority groups. Moreover, the ongoing debate around immigration policies and refugee resettlement has exposed divisions within society, with some arguing that these issues are a threat to national identity and security.
In conclusion, while there are undoubtedly many positive steps being taken towards greater inclusion, it is important to acknowledge that there are still significant barriers to overcome. Whether or not society is becoming more inclusive ultimately depends on how effectively we continue to challenge prejudice and discrimination, and work together to create a truly diverse and accepting world.
