To begin with, overfishing has led to the depletion of many fish populations worldwide. As a result, some species have become endangered or even extinct. This imbalance in the food chain can have knock-on effects throughout the ecosystem, leading to further declines in biodiversity. For example, when too many sharks are removed from an ecosystem, the number of rays and other bottom-dwelling organisms increases, resulting in a decline in seagrass beds and coral reefs.
On the other hand, pollution poses a significant threat to marine ecosystems.
