For example, by reintroducing keystone species - animals whose presence has a disproportionately large effect on their environment - into an ecosystem, the balance between predator and prey populations can be restored, thereby allowing the ecosystem to recover more rapidly. Additionally, rewilding can help mitigate the effects of climate change by sequestering carbon in vegetation and soil, reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

On the other hand, critics of rewilding argue that it is not a comprehensive solution to biodiversity loss. They maintain that while reintroducing species can help restore ecosystems, the underlying causes of biodiversity loss - such as habitat destruction, pollution, and climate change - must also be addressed. For instance, the introduction of a single species may inadvertently disrupt the delicate balance of an ecosystem or even cause harm to other native species. In conclusion, while rewilding has the potential to contribute significantly to addressing biodiversity loss, it is essential to recognize that this approach is not a standalone solution. To effectively combat the decline in global biodiversity, comprehensive strategies that encompass habitat restoration, pollution reduction, and climate change mitigation must be employed alongside rewilding efforts.
