On one hand, it can be argued that society is indeed becoming more empathetic. The rapid growth of social media platforms has allowed people to connect with others from different backgrounds and cultures. This exposure has helped foster a greater understanding of diverse perspectives, leading to increased empathy among individuals. Additionally, there are numerous organizations and campaigns dedicated to promoting empathy and raising awareness about various social issues. For example, the "Empathy Day" campaign aims to encourage people to put themselves in others' shoes and develop a deeper sense of compassion.

However, some might argue that society is becoming less empathetic due to factors such as economic disparity, political polarization, and the rise of individualism. The widening gap between the rich and the poor has created a divide where people from different socio-economic backgrounds struggle to understand each other's experiences. Moreover, the polarized political climate in many countries has led to a breakdown in communication and mutual respect, making it difficult for individuals to empathize with those who hold opposing views. Lastly, the focus on individualism has contributed to a society where people prioritize their own needs over those of others, reducing overall levels of empathy.

In conclusion, whether or not society is becoming more or less empathetic is a matter of perspective and interpretation.
