While nuclear power plants produce minimal carbon dioxide emissions, they also produce radioactive waste and present risks associated with accidents, such as those in Chernobyl and Fukushima, which may have a significant impact on public perception and acceptance of this form of energy production. Additionally, the construction and maintenance costs of nuclear plants can be high, making them an expensive option for addressing climate change.

On the other hand, nuclear energy is one of the most reliable sources of electricity as it operates at a consistent capacity factor, unlike renewable energy sources such as wind and solar which are dependent on weather conditions. Nuclear power also has a higher energy density compared to other forms of energy production, meaning that a relatively small amount of nuclear material can produce a large amount of energy, making it an attractive option for long-term sustainability. However, the long-lasting nature of radioactive waste generated by nuclear reactors presents significant challenges in terms of disposal and management, which have yet to be effectively addressed.
