This essay will discuss the impact of these changes on global weather patterns, specifically focusing on rising temperatures, extreme weather events, and shifts in precipitation patterns.
The first major consequence of climate change is a rise in average global temperatures. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) reports that over the past century, the Earth's surface temperature has increased by about 1.2°C, with most of this warming occurring since the mid-20th century. This increase can be attributed to the rise in greenhouse gas concentrations, particularly carbon dioxide (CO2), which trap heat within the atmosphere and lead to global warming. The higher temperatures have caused a variety of effects on weather patterns around the world. For instance, the Arctic has experienced significantly reduced sea ice cover, resulting in the melting of polar ice caps and rising sea levels, which in turn can exacerbate coastal flooding during storms.
Secondly, climate change has led to an increase in the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events.
