This high demand fuels the illegal trade, which leads to the unsustainable exploitation of natural resources. Consequently, many species are pushed towards extinction, disrupting the delicate balance of ecosystems and reducing biodiversity. For example, the African elephant has been poached at an alarming rate due to the high demand for its ivory tusks, leading to a decline in the species' population and destabilizing their habitats.
