In this essay, I will discuss both perspectives and provide evidence to support my own viewpoint on the matter.

On one hand, proponents of the view that society is becoming more divided along economic lines argue that the global market economy has created an unequal distribution of wealth. They assert that free-market capitalism, which rewards those who are most successful and resourceful, inevitably leads to a concentration of wealth among a small percentage of the population. For instance, in the United States, the top 1% of earners control almost 40% of the nation's total wealth, while the bottom 90% only possess 30%. This disparity is indicative of an increasingly unequal society.

Moreover, the proponents of this view argue that social policies and structures have also contributed to economic divisions. For example, in many countries, public education systems are funded primarily through local property taxes, which tend to be higher in affluent areas. This means that students from wealthier backgrounds receive a better quality education than their less privileged peers, perpetuating cycles of poverty and inequality.

On the other hand, critics of this viewpoint argue that globalization has led to a more interconnected world, which ultimately reduces economic divisions. They contend that as countries become more economically interdependent, wealth is distributed more evenly across nations. Additionally, they assert that technological advancements have created new opportunities for those in lower socioeconomic groups to rise up the social ladder. For example, many blue-collar jobs are now being replaced by high-paying tech industry positions, which were previously the exclusive domain of white-collar workers.

In conclusion, while there is evidence to suggest that society is becoming more divided along economic lines due to market forces and unjust policies, it is also important to consider the potential benefits of globalization and technological advancements. It is clear, however, that addressing these issues will require concerted efforts from both governments and individuals alike in order to promote a fairer, more equitable society for all.
