By engaging with diverse populations and addressing real-world issues, students are more likely to develop empathy, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Furthermore, community service can foster teamwork, leadership, and effective communication – all essential qualities in today's rapidly changing world.

On the other hand, opponents of mandatory community service claim that it is not a one-size-fits-all solution. Students have varying interests, abilities, and commitments outside of school, and imposing such requirements may interfere with their personal development or other extracurricular activities.
