This implies that the gap between the richest and poorest segments of society is widening, leading to an unequal distribution of resources, opportunities, and access to essential services such as education, healthcare, and housing.

Furthermore, the global financial crisis in 2008 has exacerbated this divide. The aftermath of the crisis saw many countries implementing austerity measures to reduce public debt levels. These measures disproportionately affected low-income earners who relied heavily on government support for education, healthcare, and social welfare programs. Consequently, this group experienced a decline in their quality of life and an increase in poverty levels.

On the other hand, high-income earners were able to weather the crisis relatively unscathed due to their financial stability. They also took advantage of the economic downturn by acquiring assets at lower prices, such as real estate or stocks, which led to further wealth accumulation. This created a vicious cycle where those who were already wealthy became even more so, while those with limited resources fell further behind.

Lastly, technological advancements have also played a role in exacerbating economic disparities. The rise of the gig economy and the automation of low-skilled jobs have displaced many workers from their traditional employment sectors. This has led to a decline in job security for lower-income earners while providing more opportunities for highly skilled individuals, thus widening the skill gap and further dividing society along economic lines.

In conclusion, it can be argued that society is becoming increasingly divided along economic lines due to factors such as income inequality, the effects of the global financial crisis, and advancements in technology. If left unchecked, these trends could lead to a more significant disparity between social classes, with potentially grave consequences for social cohesion and stability.
