On one hand, it can be argued that cultural assimilation is necessary for social cohesion. When individuals from different cultures adapt to the customs, traditions, and practices of a host culture, they are more likely to understand and respect each other's perspectives. This understanding can foster a sense of unity and mutual respect among diverse groups, which is crucial for maintaining social harmony. For example, when immigrants learn the language, customs, and traditions of their new country, they are better equipped to integrate into society, form relationships with native-born citizens, and contribute to the economic and social development of the nation.

On the other hand, some argue that cultural assimilation is not a prerequisite for social cohesion. A multicultural society can thrive when people from different backgrounds maintain their unique identities while still interacting with one another.
