In this essay, I will examine both perspectives and ultimately conclude whether technology has had a net positive or negative impact on income inequality.
The first argument in favor of technology alleviating income inequality is the creation of new jobs and industries. For instance, the rise of the digital economy has created numerous opportunities for skilled workers in fields such as software development, data analysis, and e-commerce. As a result, individuals possessing these skills have seen their incomes rise significantly compared to those without such expertise. Moreover, technology has also led to increased efficiency in various sectors, which can translate into lower prices for consumers and higher wages for workers.
On the other hand, critics argue that technology has primarily benefited the affluent, thereby exacerbating income inequality.
