Firstly, biotechnology has revolutionized the treatment of genetic disorders through gene therapy. By isolating defective genes and replacing them with functional genes, researchers have been able to cure or alleviate symptoms in patients suffering from conditions such as cystic fibrosis, hemophilia, and muscular dystrophy. For example, a recent study involving gene therapy for spinal muscular atrophy, a severe genetic disorder affecting infants, has shown promising results with a significant improvement in patient outcomes.

Secondly, biotechnology has significantly impacted the fight against infectious diseases. The development of vaccines using recombinant DNA technology has allowed scientists to produce large quantities of antigens that stimulate the immune system to protect against pathogens such as HIV, Hepatitis B and C, and Ebola.
