On one hand, social media has facilitated global communication by breaking down geographical barriers. People can now easily connect with friends, family, and colleagues who live in different parts of the world. This has led to an increased understanding and appreciation of diverse cultures, fostering a more inclusive society. Moreover, social media has provided a platform for activism, where individuals and groups can raise awareness about important issues, mobilize support, and create change. For instance, the Arab Spring was largely driven by social media campaigns that spread information and inspired people to take action against oppressive regimes.

On the other hand, social media has also had a negative impact on interpersonal communication. The ease of connecting with others online has led to an increase in superficial relationships, as people often prioritize the number of followers or connections they have rather than the quality of their interactions. This can result in a lack of meaningful conversations and emotional depth in relationships. Furthermore, social media has given rise to cyberbullying, where individuals use online platforms to harass or intimidate others, leading to severe psychological distress.
