On one hand, it can be argued that climate change poses an unprecedented risk to humanity. The increasing global temperatures have caused severe environmental consequences such as extreme weather events, rising sea levels, and loss of biodiversity. These impacts not only disrupt ecosystems but also endanger the survival of human societies. For instance, droughts, floods, and storms can lead to food scarcity, displacement of people, and even loss of life. Moreover, climate change exacerbates existing social inequalities, as marginalized communities are often disproportionately affected by its impacts.

On the other hand, it is essential to consider other threats that may rival or surpass climate change in terms of their existential consequences. For example, nuclear warfare remains a significant threat, as the use of nuclear weapons could cause irreversible damage to the environment and human societies. Additionally, the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies raises ethical questions about their potential misuse and the risk they pose to humanity.
